What is Ofloxacin used for? It is an antibiotic. It fights certain bacteria. It helps infections clear up. It does not treat viruses like colds or flu. You take it exactly as your doctor says.
Ofloxacin comes as tablets or a liquid. The dose depends on the infection and your health. Tell your doctor about allergies, other medicines, and pregnancy status. If you have kidney or liver problems, your dose may change.
What conditions can it treat? It may help urinary tract infections, some lung infections, skin infections, and other infections. It can also be used for kidney, prostate, or throat infections. Your doctor decides if it is right for you.
It is not for viral infections. It should be used only when a doctor confirms a bacterial infection. Using it too much or too long can lead to drug resistance and more side effects.
Timing matters. Take Ofloxacin exactly as prescribed. Do not skip doses or stop early without talking to your doctor. Some infections need once daily doses, others more often. If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose.
Take tablets with a full glass of water. You may take it with food if it upsets your stomach. Avoid antacids or minerals with calcium, iron, or zinc within 2 hours of your dose unless your doctor says it is OK.
Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use expired medicine. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.
Common side effects are usually mild. Nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset, headache, and dizziness may occur. Most people recover quickly.
Serious problems are rarer but important. Tendon pain or swelling can happen. Numbness, tingling, or weakness from nerve problems may occur. Signs of a serious allergy include trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe rash. Sun exposure can increase, so use sunscreen.
When to call a doctor. If you have a severe allergic reaction, seek urgent care. Signs include trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe rash. Also tell your doctor about tendon pain, nerve symptoms, or persistent stomach pain.
If symptoms worsen or you do not improve after finishing the course, contact your doctor. Tell them about other medicines you take. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss this with your clinician before starting Ofloxacin. If you have kidney or liver disease, inform your healthcare team.
